Maunsell AECOM – GPO Building, Perth Five-Star Green Accreditation Iconic Heritage Building Knowledge Transfer
close

Maunsell AECOM is one of the fastest-growing engineering consulting firms in the Asia-Pacific region. The company’s first Australian project was the design of a bridge on the Derwent River in Tasmania. Nowadays, they are known for their mega-transport projects such as the multi-award-winning M7 Motorway in Sydney.

ISIS was secured by Thinc Projects as the construction managers for Maunsell’s new corporate headquarters in Perth. From there, two important considerations arose from our initial discussions. One of the customer’s goals was to be awarded 5 Star Green Accreditation upon completion of the project. The other was the careful management of heritage restrictions while refurbishing a Perth icon, the former GPO building.

Throughout the project, we were able to complement our own knowledge base by seeking advice and assistance from external parties such as a local structural engineer who had extensive prior experience with the GPO building.

The size of the project increased and timeframes were revised. However, we contained potential budget blowouts by working with a Sydney-based architect to source alternative materials.

Our working relationship with Maunsell’s in-house Green Star specialists was particularly inspirational and we were able to achieve our first Green Star project in Perth. We also got on well with their neighbours. Our successful relationship with the customer enabled us to attain a similar contract with BHP for their fitout within the same building.
