Coles is a well-known brand with an emphasis on consistent delivery. That doesn’t just apply to the meat, vegetables and the thousands of everyday shopping necessities that they stock. It also applies to their image, which is carefully considered and regularly updated to reflect the needs of their customers.

In this case, we were contracted to take an existing Bi-Lo store at Capalaba Park Shopping Centre in Central Queensland and bring it into line with their latest design ethos. The customer was after an overall feel that was a fresher, brighter and more modern shopping experience.

The transformation from older style Bi-Lo to industry-leading Coles supermarket was extensive. Against a budget of $3.5 million, we delivered the project on time after 26 weeks of work. We demolished all previous services and fittings and started from scratch to construct a new deli, bakery and meat preparation room as well as new freezers and dairy cases.

Weekly meetings and continual communication with the customer enabled us to make some changes to the design and finishes during the project with no adverse effect on timing or budget. An additional challenge was that the shopping centre was also undergoing refurbishment but we were able to take that in our stride.

Working with Coles always proves to be an inspiration as they have clear and consistent standards and we share their enthusiasm for detail. We’re also certain the local shoppers have appreciated the change.
